Huge shout-out to this week’s hero, Jen. I got talking to Jen a couple of weeks ago after a performance. She was stuck in a high profile job she hated and it was taking it’s tole. It touched me to see this desperate level of honesty, because it reminded me of my own situation a few months prior, sat in as an unhappy, lifeless, tired junior in an Investment Bank, hoping the world would help me. I told her that I’d been in her situation, and that I’d left the vacuous pursuit of ‘prestige and money’ to pursue my passion, and never looked back.
Life went on, and that was that. Until a couple of days ago when Jen sent me this message…
” You probably don’t remember me, but I took a few pictures of you a couple of weeks ago in Camden and you encouraged me to quit my job in PR… will sound crazy, but that day I applied for my dream job working for a charity and after three interviews I got offered the position. I handed in my notice at work today and feel great.
I am not usually the kind of person that buys in to happy-clappy signs and signals… but I had been walking around Camden that day trying to find the courage to apply for a job that would mean a massive pay cut, but would make me happy. Your story inspired me to do it.
If I can ever buy you a coffee to say thank you, let me know! “
So happy for this girl – wonderful news!
Best of luck Jen. Here’s to a happier life, living the dream!
